Glamping Holidays in Essex
The ultimate camping experience is Glamping (glamour camping) Layer Marney Tower is one of the Featherdown Farm Country Retreats where guests can enjoy a luxurious break in the peace and calm of the countryside. The Glamping site in Essex closes for the winter at the end of October, opening again in spring 2015.
Glamping Essex
There are six tented encampments in the grounds of Layer Marney Tower each named after one of the wives of Henry VIII.
Each encampment has a main tent sleeping up to 6 people in comfortable beds, there is a plumbed in loo, cold running water to the kitchen sink, and battery operated lights. A comfortable sofa and large table and a wooden floor running throughout and onto a large veranda, that adds 1/3 to the living space. There is an indoor and outdoor cooking stove fuelled by logs that are provided. There is a private shower. Three of the encampments have hot tubs (book them through Featherdown)
There is a small shop that will supply items you might have forgotten and we can order food in for you.
Layer Marney Tower is available to hire for parties.
The Long Gallery seats up to 140 for a formal sit down dinner or up to 200 for a buffet supper. There is an area for dancing at one end (tables can quickly be moved for large numbers) Smaller parties, with no dancing can use the Corsellis Room, this is suitable for parties of up to 60 guests but we can’t have dancing in that room. The gardens, grounds and courtyard can be used in conjunction with the Long Gallery for summer evening parties, with guests spilling outside with drinks and canapés.
Location
From London and the West
Leave the A12 at the Kelvedon turning (B1024). Drive through Kelvedon, crossing the river, and at the top of the hill turn right by the Old Anchor pub, to Maldon and Tiptree (B1023). Follow this road for about two miles to a T-junction. Turn left to Colchester (B1022). Turn right after 2 miles, at the signpost to Layer Marney Tower. There is a sharp corner almost immediately, followed soon after by a left turning signed to Layer Marney Tower which you should take. At the first cross-roads turn right (signed), and drive for about 1/4 mile. The entrance gates to Layer Marney Tower are on the right.
From Ipswich and the EastTurn off the A12 at the Halstead exit (B1124). At the roundabout take the first exit left. (You will pass a sign for Layer Marney Tower that says follow the signs to Maldon). At the next roundabout take the third exit to Maldon, Tollgate Retail Park and Colchester Zoo, passing Sainsburys on your right. You will now go over three small roundabouts: at the first go straight over, at the second turn left, and at the third, a double roundabout, turn right to Maldon. Follow the road for just over a mile to a T-junction. Turn right to Maldon (B1022). After two miles you will see, on the right, the entrance to Birch Quarry, and soon after a turning on the left signed to Layer Marney Tower. Take this turning, go straight over the cross-roads and follow the lane for 1/4 of a mile. The entrance gates to Layer Marney Tower are on the right.
Mainline Railway Staions Marks Tey and Colchester are nearby.
